The 5th e – Government kicks off in Hochiminh City Hochiminh City, August 21st, 2007 Ministry of Information and Communication, Hochiminh City Department of Information and Communication, and International Data Group – IDG co-organize the
5th annual Vietnam e-Government Symposium which will take place on December 04 – 06, 2007 in Hochiminh City. The event is endorsed by Ministry of Home Affair, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Hochiminh City People's Committee.
“Vietnam’s E-Government Journey: Where we are now, what the future will be” is the theme of this Symposium aimed at giving assessment on practical issues of e-Government (e-Gov), creating better public services; bringing benefit for businesses and citizens by strengthening e-government model to improve government management capacity. According to Dr. Tran Minh Tien – President, National Institute of Posts & Telematics Strategy, Ministry of Posts and Telematics, from 2006 Vietnam has promoted e-government model by implementing at the same time State regime reform, process reform and public service reform, by 2007 Hanoi and Hochiminh City have tried their best to achieve medium level of e-government development compared to other countries in the region. The Conference will focus in keynotes of high practical value delivered by both local and international outstanding speakers. The symposium will introduce about
experiences from foreign e-Government case studies; the role of The World Bank reforming project,
consistent IT architecture for a successful e-Government in Vietnam in a special session. Besides, many burning topics demonstrating e-Government models will be addressed by local and international solution providers at this event. Especially,
this conference will focus on main discussion sessions that audience can directly discuss, make questions and exchange ideas with speakers on various topics such as IT application models; practical implementation in organizations, provinces; shortcomings, solutions and factors affecting e-government success and so on. The round-table discussion will be co-chaired by Ministry of Information and Communication and Ministry of Science and Technology. The symposium will be an open forum on e-government. In which, the presence of policy-makers, international organization representatives and solution providers will specify current e-government situation, including both advantages and disadvantages in implementing e-government model. Proposals at this symposium will be vital condition for building and working out e-government strategy development in the coming time. Running concurrent with the Symposium is an expo to display and introduce latest products, solutions, core technology for e- Government application inside and outside the country. The event estimated to attract 600 conference guest and 1500 exhibition visitors, including leaders from National Assembly of SRV, the Government; representatives from Ministries, Departments, sectors of cities and provinces nation-wide, international organizations; local and foreign ICT vendors.

Emai: anh_pham@idg.com.vn Ho Chi Minh City Department of Post and Telematics Introduction (HCMC DPT) Established on 29/10/2004 under the Decision 247/2004/QĐ-UB of HCMC People’s Committee, HCMC DPT is a specialized agency under the HCMC People’s Committee as well as its professional competence activities is overseen by MPT (Ministry of Post and Telematics). HCMC DPT was officially started operation on 17/12/2004. The duties of HCMC DPT include: State management on ICT, Posts, Telecommunication, Electronics, Internet, Radio frequency and ICT infrastructure; Managing public services in ICT, Posts, and Telecommunication in HCMC. HCMC DPT was also commissioned as the State organization for the management of ICT Associations’ activities. HCMC DPT has total 60 staff members who are young, enthusiastic and dynamic. Of the 60 staffs, 4 members are PhD and 12 members hold Master Degree. HCMC DPT has been the leader in the state management in ICT. DPT is current initiatives in increase the State management on ICT to develop Telecommunication and Internet services, acceleration the implementation of ICT projects in government agencies to establish the foundation for e-Government and support to the electronics and IT industries development have gained substantial outcomes for the first few steps.
